Isn't Sport a fickle?

All the sports afficionados would be licking thier lips with so many sporting events simultaneously happening in the sporting arena this month like Wimbledon,Confederation Cup,England-Australia Cricket Series,India's desperate bid to break into Men's volleyball's ivy league and many more events. What more a connossieur of sport can ask for?Almost half of the world is sucked into one or the other sports mentioned above, cheering thier stars and heroes.

Its often said beauty is an illusion in sports. And rightly so when you see King Federer assasinating his opponents with his two contrasting styles, beauty and mayhem. With both these antagonistic traits the king marches on winning 36th straight grass court match and subsequently eyeing for the 3rd straight wimbledon title. Will he be able to follow the footsteps of the darling of the tennis fraternity,Pete Sampras? The time will answer that but who cares?Lets enjoy the daredevils of the smiling assasin till then.

Safeguarding the legacy of footballing giants like Pele, Zico, Romario, Ronaldo, Rivaldo comes one of the most accomplished footballing teams in the world,Brazil. That country seems to produce a magician before every world Cup and this time its the wonderkid, Robinho.A grand finale is on the cards with the two of greatest footballing nations and arch rivals Brazil and Argentina clashing in the finals of the confederation Cup.Not only its just about winning the final but it also will serve as a Psychological build up for the next years World Cup.

On the other side of the globe,Australia and England are fighting tooth and nail to stamp its authority on the World Cricket. But what a great leveller this sport is,infact most of the sports bear this trait, when the entire world saw ruthless aussies being humbled at the hands of the minnows Bangladesh. This brings to my mind a simple question:Isn't sport a fickle? But there lies ite austerity and beauty.

While everyone is absorbed seeing the exploits in the Grass court, the artistry of the Samba Football and the age old rivalry between England and Australia in the world cricket, our own Compatriots are trying to break into the top echleons of Men's volleyball. E.Sreedharan, the coach has worked hard with the spikers and hope it brings laurels to the billion strong nation as well.India itself is undergoing a see change in terms of public attitude towards sports. No wonder why we have been consistent in producing stars like Mirzas,Rathores,Advanis who will hopefully be able to make some impact in a cricket obsessed society.
